TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama relied on a bunch of fresh new faces to get the job done on college baseball opening day against the Northeastern Huskies. True left-handed freshman, Connor Prielipp threw four complete scoreless innings and gave up one hit to record his first collegiate win of 10-0 in game one of the three-game series.
Prielipp wasn't the only freshman who contributed to the win. Freshman outfielder Owen Diodati added four runs, three RBIs and collected two home runs for his first appearance at Swell-Thomas stadium.
The Huskies couldn't get the bat on the ball more than four times against the four Alabama pitchers they faced through nine innings.
With a long third inning for Northeastern on the defensive side of the field, Crimson Tide's Drew Williamson batted the ball hard to gain a leadoff triple to get the inning started.
Alabama scored three runs in the third and got the bats on the ball again in the seventh where they scored four to secure the win.
Up next, the Crimson Tide and Huskies will face off for game two of the series on Saturday, February 15th at Swell-Thomas stadium where Alabama looks for another potential shut out game.
