TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama baseball received its first loss of the year, 3-2 by Lipscomb in the second game of the series at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The loss breaks the Crimson Tide's 14 straight win streak to start the season - the second-longest winning streak to begin a year in program history - and puts UA now at 14-1 overall.
The Bisons scored in their first-inning at-bat, but they were matched quickly by Alabama who came out swinging in the bottom of the third. Lipscomb added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings with Alabama returning the deed with one in the sixth.
The Crimson Tide got runners on the bases in the seventh and eighth innings but were unable to complete the comeback for what would have been their 15th win.
With 5.1 innings pitched, Lipscomb starter Max Habegger received the win. Alabama's Connor Shamblin, now 1-1 suffered the loss with a solid start to his efforts. William Freeman contributed out of the bullpen and put up a show to keep the Crimson Tide in the game as much as he could.
From Assistant Coach Jason Jackson
"I hope the players show up tomorrow ready to win a series because that is the ultimate goal - to come out and win a series. We'll start new. We have a new streak to start tomorrow."
Alabama looks to finish the series against Lipscomb March 8th with a big win to put them back on track for a new win streak.
